Dear FISers
This short message to keep you posted on Biosemiotics ("the study of
signs, of communication, and of information in living organisms").
Gathering in Biosemiotics 3 took place at Copenhagen,
July 11-14 2003. (Some FISers were present).
More than 30 presentations were made under the following themes:
- Sign action in biosystems
- Sign, Meaning, and Codes
- Ethology and Cognitive zoosemiotics
- Towards an understanding of the Innenwelten of life
- Representational tools and theories
- Semiosis beyond biology
- Foundational perspectives
- Uexkullian and Peircean perspectives
- The biosemiotics of values
- The emergence of symbols and culture
