In adding my voice of sorrow and condolence I must also share my regret
that another opportunity has been created to manipulate the public by the
despicable and greedy merchants of fear in this country. My apologies for
becoming partisan in this context, but the political repurcussions of
escalating violence are as tragic as the violence itself.

And somewhere buried in these issues is the perennial enigma of
information and insight, the difficulty posed for the human species of
distinguishing between knowledge and wisdom, the chasm between knowing and
understanding how to act based on knowing. Implicated also is the simple
and straightforward strategy of manipulating information to serve partisan
ends. I suppose none of us are innocent on that count, at one scale or
another.
